Matt has spent more than a decade exploring, guiding and planning journeys across Southern Africa, from the leopard country of the Sabi Sands to the fynbos-covered mountains of the Cape. Those years have shaped his understanding of what makes a trip memorable: the right setting, thoughtful timing and people who make you feel welcome.
Gone Wild Africa grew from that experience. Every journey is personally planned by Matt, drawing on places he knows and relationships built over years in the field. Your interests set the direction, whether you’re happiest following tracks at first light or taking a little longer over breakfast with a view.
The business has stayed deliberately small to give each journey that attention. Most guests find us through someone who has travelled with us before, a trust Matt takes personally.

Honest advice
If a cheaper reserve suits you better, we say so. If your dates are wrong for what you want to see, we say that too — even when it costs us the booking.
Guides who know it
Qualified, experienced and chosen per trip. A photographer and a family with a six-year-old should not get the same guide.
Camps that give back
We favour lodges that fund anti-poaching, employ locally and hold real conservation credentials, and we can show you the work.
No hand-offs
The person who plans your trip is the person you message from the airport. There is nobody to be transferred to.
